About Fairfax
The federal electorate of Fairfax stretches from Peregian Springs in the north to Maroochydore, Buderim and the Sunshine Motorway in the south; and west to the Hinterland and rural towns of Eumundi, Yandina, Nambour, Woombye, Mapleton and Kenilworth.
It’s an area known for its natural beauty, three unique biospheres and lifestyle that’s second to none. Its ancient history goes back to the time of the Bunya feasts, with the first inhabitants being the Gubbi Gubbi/Kabi Kabi and Jinibara People.
Each pocket of Fairfax has its own character and priorities. What we share in common is an appreciation for this incredible area, and a determination to protect and enhance the gifts and opportunities of living here, now and into the future.
Fairfax is named for Ruth Fairfax, founder of the Country Women’s Association. However Fairfax has never been represented by a woman.
Population In 2021
The census in October will change some of the demographics of the Fairfax Electorate. Compared with Queensland (the red line), Fairfax has
- More residents over 65
- Fewer residents between the ages of 18 and 50 years.
Compared with an inner city electorate such as Kooyong Fairfax is old, and Kooyong young.
The population of the Sunshine Coast was approximately 346,600 in 2021. By 2026, estimates indicate the population will be roughly 400,000 residents. This reflects an increase of over 50,000 people and aligns with the region’s trajectory to exceed 500,000 residents by 2041.
Many of these new arrivals have settled in Caloundra South area, and it is not certain how many will have settled in the Fairfax Electorate. There is a census in October 2026. The results will be available in early 2027. Changes to Federal electoral boundaries will be notified in time for the 2028 elections. Refer to the AEC Timetable here
