AI Will Change Our Education Foundations
Are you ready?
Fairfax Matters Forum Recap · Saturday 25 July 2026 · St Mark’s Church Hall, Buderim
What We Discussed
Artificial Intelligence isn’t coming — it’s already here. Fairfax Matters brought together two leading voices to explore what AI means for our education systems, our children, our grandchildren, and the future of work.
With reductions expected in many jobs and careers, the question on everyone’s mind was simple: what are we training our young people for? Each speaker had 10 minutes, followed by 20 minutes of audience questions.
Our Speakers
Frederique Dennison
Founder of CirceanWorks and creator of Quendi, an AI study companion built on the science of learning. After two decades in global corporations (Microsoft, Accenture, NTT), Frederique moved into education and has spent two years working inside schools with teachers and students. She sits on the board of Montessori International College. Her argument on the night: the real question for this generation isn’t whether they use AI — it’s whether they’ve built the judgement and capability to use it well.
Dr Karen Sutherland
Keynote speaker. Certified AI Consultant, multi-award-winning educator, author, and Co-Founder of Dharana Digital. Karen brings 25 years’ experience in marketing and strategic communication, with research roles at the University of the Sunshine Coast and Monash University.
Dr Hugh Butler
Scientist, entrepreneur, and author of Optimistic Storm AI. Hugh set out the scenario that by 2045 every job could be done by a machine, and posed three questions: what economics are driving this change, what are the repercussions for employment, and what education actually prepares our children and grandchildren for an era like this.
The panel was convened by Linda Taylor.
